Hello
My article is on big development in Guatemala.
The gist of it is that Guatemala is trying to step up into modern society in a copula ways.
There are large mining company’s coming to Guatemala and taking land from locals with orders from the government and just leaving the people homeless and with out their belongings. The company’s claim jobs and benefits to the people so the government supports them, but the government sees the money. The people’s principle desire is to have enough land to support their families through subsistence agriculture. But the people are forced off the land some times killed by the military carrying out evictions. More evictions are planned in the coming days and hundreds of peasant families have been made homeless in less than 48 hours. The people of Barrio Revolución and Barrio La Paz worked tirelessly to dismantle their remaining homes under heavy police supervision. A sprinkle of rain turned into a heavy afternoon shower and there was nowhere to go for shelter. The refrain of these communities, as they stood alongside the highway with their belongings, was unanimous. "Development brings eviction; development brings displacement." So as Guatemala starts moving forward into the modern world will they do what ever it takes, as their people and culture fade away, or will they understand the importance of the local people and what their culture has to bring to the country.
