  • Announcing the 2008 New Wilmington Mission Conference Speakers

We're pleased to announce the 2008 New Wilmington Mission Conference speakers.

Rodger Nishioka, Associate Professor of Christian Education at Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, will return as our Morning Meeting speaker this year.

Please learn about Rodger and our other speakers on the 2008 NWMC Speakers page.  You can also download the speaker bios and distribute it freely.

We will update these resources as the final speakers are confirmed.

  • Online Registration for the 2008 New Wilmington Mission Conference is Now Available

I'm pleased to announce online registration is now available for the 2008 NWMC.  It hasn't changed much for those who used it last year.  Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions about this process.

As always, you can still download the registration form and mail it in to the office.

You can view a summary of the costs for the 2008 NWMC here.

  • More 2007 New Wilmington Mission Conference Podcasts

I'm glad to announce we've posted more podcasts from the 2007 NWMC.  We apologize for the delays, but I've been posting the files almost as soon as the audio is received.  That is an issue we're working to improve in the future.

Here are some of the meetings we've posted podcasts for:

Once again, I'd like to thank Matt Pagac and Rising Sun Productions for their enabling us to podcast these meetings.  If you find these useful, please consider purchasing a higher quality CD from them.

  • 2007 NWMC Address Lists

This is just to let everyone know the 2007 NWMC address lists have been emailed to the address everyone registered with unless you updated it at conference.  If you haven't received it, please check your junk email filters.  A number of people have had problems with spam filtering software identifying the mail as spam.  If you have further questions, please contact the office at office@nwmcmission.org.
  • Pictures, Podcasts and Videos

Just to let everyone know, I probably won't have all of the media up from conference for a couple weeks, but I'll continue working and posting things as frequently as possible.  Here's a rough outline of what you can expect and when.  You can read this note on ways to stay up to date on what's new on the site.

    Pictures
Thanks to Desta Courtney, I'm posting some of his best pictures.  Some are already up and I should finish downloading them by some time tomorrow, so I'll try to post the rest tomorrow night.  I've also posted a handful taken by myself and others.

You can always upload your own pictures if you have an account (here's how to create an account if you don't have one).  This post will show you how to post a picture to the site.

    Podcasts
I've posted all of the morning meetings and all of the evening meetings except Thursday and Friday.  I will post the rest of the ones Rising Sun recorded as I receive them, hopefully starting in a couple days and all of theirs up within a week or two.  The high school recordings need edited and may be a little longer (we missed a few vespers and parts of some meetings won't be appropriate for podcasts so they won't be included).  Unfortunately, I believe we only got a couple of the young adult meetings and they will take some editing as well, so they will be a couple weeks.  I need to thank Justin Manon and Ali Rhea for their help in recording the high school meetings.

    Videos
I hope to post a new one of these every few days for the next few weeks.  Unfortunately, they take over an hour for me to edit a video 1 minute of video, so it will take a lot of time and they won't be that fast (or professional).  If you want a good video, I highly recommend getting one from Rising Sun.  The ones I post are more to give people a "taste" of conference.  The new videos will be topic based instead of for each day.  Topics I'm considering include: Jr. High, high school, young adults, sports, prayer, and youth.  I'm sure I'll have more ideas and that I won't have enough quality video for some of these, so please let me know if you have suggestions.

If you have any questions, please feel free to add a comment or contact me.

    Andrew Dawson

  • No More Podcasts Until Friday

I'm sorry to announce it doesn't look like we'll have any more podcasts for a couple days, but here is how they will be posted.  I hope to start posting the remainder of the morning and evening meetings (in Anderson) Friday afternoon and to have them all posted by the end of the day Saturday.

The podcasts for Bible Hours, Mission Studies and Vespers will then be posted over the next couple weeks as I have time to touch up the ones we recorded ourselves and Rising Sun has the opportunity to finish working on their recordings and get them to me.

Please feel free to contact me or post comments if you have any questions.

  • Podcasts are Now being Posted

I'm pleased to announce we are beginning to post the podcasts from the week.  The morning and evening meetings will be given the highest priority, but we will be posting the messages from all Bible Hours and Vespers as well as soon as I have the time.

Check out all of this year's podcasts at:

  • 2007 New Wilmington Mission Conference AIDS Service Project Press Release

    P R E S S   R E L E A S E

    For Immediate Release

This week people from all over the world will gather in New Wilmington to make a difference.  Sleepy New Wilmington is home to the New Wilmington Mission Conference, a 102 year traditional gathering of Presbyterians who care about missions. The week-long event is marked by speakers and singing, prayer meetings, and small groups, all intent on learning about what in the world the Church is doing in mission.

While there, the youth will do some mission service themselves.

Junior and senior highs will visit the local nursing homes, playing bingo, talking and making friendships with older adults three and four generations older – usually five and six times their age. They will make a small gift for each person they visit as a way to “break the ice” and as a reminder of the visit.

Elementary children will make handmade crafts for mission workers in Ethiopia and Taiwan. In addition, they will make health care kits for a rural hospital in Mombin Crochu, Haiti. A simple zip lock plastic bag will hold basic items for hygiene – a washcloth, soap, tooth brush and tooth paste, three Band Aids and safety pins, a pen and small notebook.  Paul and Joan McClain, who worked at the Covenant Hospital say even these simple items are more than most Haitians can afford.  The children will assemble about 125 kits, which will be shipped to Haiti, courtesy of the Sixth Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh.

They will even have a car wash to raise money for a specific mission project.

But the main service project this year is to gather and assemble the items needed to make 700 AIDS Care Kits, promoted through World Vision, an international Christian relief organization.

40 million people worldwide are living with HIV.  Local caregivers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America are already helping families affected by HIV and AIDS.  But they lack simple items needed to prolong lives and comfort the sick. Caregivers are family members and local volunteers around the world who are providing compassionate support to people living with AIDS.  Hardworking community volunteers offer physical and emotional support to affected households, while family members—many of them children—sacrifice everything to care for sick mothers, fathers, and other relatives.  Many of these courageous caregivers lack the basic supplies they need to safely and effectively minister to the sick.

Caregiver Kits are filled with basic supplies that improve and prolong the lives of those living with AIDS while protecting caregivers and preventing the spread of infection.  Each kit consists of a carrying case filled with:  Antibacterial soap, Petroleum jelly, Antifungal cream, Cotton balls, Latex gloves, Washcloths, Notebook and pens, Flashlight with batteries.  A handwritten note is included in each kit to encourage the caregiver who receives the supplies.

First Lady Laura Bush was recently on ABC Good Morning America promoting the World Vision AIDS Care Kits. See the video at  http://worldvision.org/  or

    http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3321172&lid=gma&lpos=day:txt:first_lady

On Friday, the kits will be boxed and loaded into a semi-truck, where they will begin their long journey across the country, and across the world, carrying hope, love and care, in the form of soap and medicine, to a world which needs them all.

It’s been said that “God is in the details.”  The truth is, you can see God’s loving hand in each of the estimated 17,000 items that we will assemble this week.

    ·         20 items for AIDS kits per kit, times 700 kits, equals 14,000 items.

    ·         14 items for Haiti health care kits, times 125 kits, equals 1,750 items.

    ·         9 items for Nursing Home gifts, times 125 elderly, equals 1,125 items.

    ·         10 items for New Baby kits, times 50 kits, equals 500 items.

    ·         Handmade gifts for mission workers in Ethiopia and in Taiwan, approx. 500 items.

  • Podcasts Coming Soon

This is just let people know the podcasts should be starting to show up in the next day or two.  We've had some additional delays due to hardware and logistical issues, but will post them ASAP.

  • Musical Notes

Here's a quick note from Jen Morris about some of the musical events going on this year:

Hello everyone.  I will once again be waving my arms around with Choir.  David Bailey is going to be leading the Careers singing - yahoo! I'll be singing out loud and strong with the rest of you! It's going to be an amazing week!

I writing you all to let you know of a couple of musical notes to note. Choir rehearsal will be held in McKelvey in the Witherspoon room.  Yes - it is wonderfully air conditioned!!!  Hopefully this will inspire even more people to raise their voices in praise.  Choir members will be allowed to go to the front of the line in Browne Dining Hall.  Lunch is at 12:30 this year - and Conference Choir will be from 1:15-2:15pm. I'll also be directing a new Praise Choir.  This choir is open for the 21 and younger crowd.  Hopefully this will give a place for our HS and College kids - and even our musical Jr highers - to come and give their praise in song.  That choir will also meet in McKelvey from 2:30 - 3:30pm. (Just in case some of the kids want to sing in both groups- that's fine) Please let your delegates and kids know about this new and exciting choir.  They will be singing on Friday - probably 2 songs. I've been burning CDs of the music for both choirs.  They'll all be ready for you to pick up at registration.

Speaking of using your gifts - especially with music - please consider what gifts you may want to share with our conference family.  Do you play guitar, drums, flute, keyboards?  Do you like to sing and lead children or Jr Highs or....just sing? There are many places for gifts to be used at NWMC.  We just don't know who to ask - who plays what - or who wants to share. Maybe you'd like  to help one day or everyday. Ed Marquette and I will be at a "Musical Gifts" table at registration.  We'll have the choir music for both choirs, and also sign up sheets for you to let us know of your own gift - if you would like to add in to our music ministry.  This isn't meaning to put you in front of Anderson Auditorium for a solo if you say you play guitar.  Rather, could you give up 30 minutes one morning to play "Jesus Loves Me" with the 4-5 yr olds? Or sing "To Be Alive" and "Chicken Sandwich" with the Jr Highers?  It's going to be awesome to see where God leads us with our Music ministry.

OK - Time to Pack!  See ya there!

    Blessings,

    Jen Morris
