The 2008 NWMC was a great week! We broke the 1,000 delegate threshold for registrations! Let’s go beyond that in 2009! If you were blessed by Conference last summer, pass along that blessing to others. Who can YOU personally invite to join us next summer? Help promote NWMC by encouraging others to watch the Power Point presentation on the webpage (search: 2009 NWMC Power Point.) Download it and share it with your youth group. Urge your youth director to attend with youth from your church. NWMC is great for leadership development. Youth who attend often go home and provide strong leadership in their youth groups.

We would like to advertise NWMC at youth leader events and regional APCE meetings. If you plan to attend one of these, will you share NWMC information there? Contact the office or Pam Pope Courtney (mail@dcourtney.net)

Update on the “Chosen Generation Missions Conference” in Malawi in July, 2008: Fletcher Matandika reports that the Lord moved in a mighty way for the Conference participants: “I trust that in a few years, the world will see wave after wave of Malawian Christians going out for battle against the forces of darkness all around the world.”

Operation Christmas Child: Thanks to everyone who helped with our service project! From donations of toys and other items, to writing gift notes, to sorting and assembling the individual boxes, you ALL will touch the lives and hearts of 572 children this Christmas!

Highlights from the NWMC Board of Managers meeting on October 10 and 11, 2008:

--The 2009 Day of Prayer (Friday, July 17) will overlap with the Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM) conference; both groups will have to adapt. Some staff will not be able to occupy their rooms until Saturday afternoon. NMWC Registration will not begin until 3:00 PM on Saturday (not the usual 1:30 PM time) AND it will take place in the Social Room of the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church (NOT the Field House!) Check your registration packets for more updated information on the 2009 Conference registration, time and place.

--Westminster College will renovate several dorms next summer. Browne and part of Eichenauer are not available for use.

--Anderson Auditorium: Roof repairs recently completed were under warranty. Audio, visual, and electrical

repairs and improvements will be made in 2009.

Want to be on NWMC staff? This year many children experienced NWMC through the Child Care program. They had fun, but we were short on staff. We are recruiting Child Care staff early this year. If you are 21 years of age or older and love to work with children, we NEED you! We welcome Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Grandparent wanna-bees. Child care staff is needed for two sessions – morning and evening. Four rooms need to be staffed: infant, toddler, preschool and grade school. Take your choice on a first-come, first-served basis. Your cost for a week of NWMC on Child Care staff is just $80. If interested, contact Ann McCord (330-668-7159) or mccordr@aol.com. Remember, our Child Care program is only as good as the volunteers who agree to work in it!

    Upcoming NWMC DATES: July 24-31, 2010; July 23-30, 2011; July 21-28, 2012.

Watch for your blue 2009 NWMC brochure; pass it on after you check out the photos, or print one off the website for a friend!

GOOD NEWS! The 2009 rates will remain the same!

Would you like to receive NWMC Emails throughout the year? Send/update your email address to the office.

Also, contact the office if you wish to receive monthly email prayer requests for NWMC.

Remember Early Bird registration by May 1, 2009, the Super Saver Youth Group Special, AND online registration & payment.

Need some financial help to attend NWMC next summer? Scholarship assistance is available for high school and young adult Dining Hall workers, limited positions for Junior High luggage carriers on the opening day of NWMC, and limited lifeguard opportunities during the week of NWMC. Also, if a church has not been involved with NWMC in the past, there are some first-timer church grants available. Contact the office (724-946-9770) for information!!

Please see the NWMC web site for pictures and more information!!

To the Church Triumphant: Delores Skinner has entered the joy the Lord has prepared. We rejoice for her and are thankful for her love of the Lord and NWMC. We pray God’s comfort for her family as they miss her presence.

During the 2008 NWMC you had a lot of fun, made new friends, and helped to support the NWMC Endowment Foundation by your participation in the “Walk Around the Lake”, which produced $3050 and the Golf Outing, which netted $1715 to help underwrite future conferences. Thank you to all who participated in those events!

For over 100 years, the New Wilmington Mission Conference has issued the clear call to young people to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to serve Him in mission and ministry vocations. Thousands have come to know Christ through NWMC, and many have accepted the call to a life of service.

If you are reading this Scattered Chatter, NWMC has touched your life in some way. What better way to give back to Conference than to ensure continued visionary leadership by supporting the Director’s Compensation Endowment Fund? What better way to challenge tomorrow’s leaders in mission and ministry than by expanding their opportunities to experience global mission by supporting the Summer Service Endowment Fund? If you are interested, check the NWMC website or email Brian Stack at b.stack@sbcglobal.net

  • 2006 Service Project Report

The Service Project is a wonderful way to put our faith into action during Conference!

It started out three years ago as a way to challenge the new junior high population, and the kids unpacked and repacked hundreds of Christian books and Bibles to be given away for others to hear the Good News.  Two years ago, for the 100th NWMC, the Project took root as youth and delegates sorted and packed a literal mountain of AIDS Home Based Kits to our brothers and sisters in Africa.  In 2006 each delegate was asked to bring items to contribute to Church World Service Health Care Kits.

This summer we saw the Service Project expand to the Presbyterian Church basement, and involved children from the older Primaries and Juniors as well as every junior high student.  Many high school and adult delegates have been involved since the beginning as well, and do a lot of the "heavy lifting" of the service project.

Make sure to check back to hear about plans for 2007!

  • Fall 2006 Expanded Scattered Chatter Page 2

Here's page 2 of the Expanded Scattered Chatter for the fall of 2006.  It's an easily understandable overview of the ways you can support New Wilmington Mission Conference financially.

It may not be the most exciting thing, but I didn't realize we had half of these funds and what they were designed to support.  I strongly recommend giving this the quick look it deserves.

I've attached it as a PDF file below.  Just click on the attachment (2006-November-Expanded-p2.pdf) to view it or right-click to save.  You will need Adobe Reader to view the file.

  • Fall 2006 Expanded Scattered Chatter

As I said last night, the Scattered Chatter is in the mail.  Those who have visited since then can get their own sneak peak.  I'll try to have things up before the snail mail when it's appropriate.  Here's the promised expanded version for your viewing pleasure.

  • Scattered Chatter

Here is the November Scattered Chatter.  I'll post the Scattered Chatter as soon as I receive the information.  To view it, just click on the attachment at the bottom of the post (NWMC_Scattered_Chatter-Nov,2006.pdf). Right-click and click save as if you want to save it to your computer.

Update:  I've updated the attachment to the color version that was mailed out.
