    Swim Pass?

Hi! I attended the New Wilmington Missionary Conference this year and heard a great deal about Swim Passes. What are they?

    Re: Swim Pass?

Well, its sort of like a pass you get, and its for swimming...you know, the pool.  I think we handed out something like 30 to 50 passes this year...which is amazing since Im pretty sure that more than 50 people went swimming throughout the week.  Man, how'd that happen?  If you do the math, add up all of the swimmers each day, carry the 1, you get like what, 200 people or so?  That must mean there was something like 150 violators...man! How DID that happen?

    Re: Swim Pass?

Yes, unfortunately there were a lot of swim pass violators this year.  Good news is I'm pretty sure no one got in trouble this time.  Apparently they didn't have anyone checking for passes this year.  I’m thinking, what’s the point of needing swim passes if no one's checking?!  Anyway, I’m sure next year things will be a little different, and I sure hope more people actually get their swim passes before swimming!  I see it like a driver's license...you still need it to drive, even if you're never asked for one!

Oh, and Tom, when you carry the 1, and don't carry the two, you end up with 212 people not just 200!  Just thought I'd correct you on your math!

    Re: Swim Pass?

212! that is a lot of violators.  Well, I think you are right.  Next year we'll just have to change it up a bit.  More security.  Barcodes, metal detectors, and dogs.  Of course that might be a bit extreme...maybe we give them one more year to follow the "Swim Pass Code of Good Moral Conduct and Discipline"...if that doesn't work...then we bring in the dogs.

BTW- does this at all answer your question?  If you'd like Im sure justin would be happy to elaborate on the history of the swim pass and why it is so critical to NWMC success.

    Re: Swim Pass?

I actually heard that the large volume of swim pass violators were those sneaky HS girl delegates...I think the bar code idea is a good one as long as it's water proof.

    Re: Swim Pass?

I did hear that the majority of those violaters where the HS girl delegates...wonder how THAT happened!!  I think we should use waterproof passes with barcodes if we still have people ignoring the rules next year....

    Re: Swim Pass?

I personally think we should just use our nametags for swim passes.  we are already supposed to carry those around, just one less thing to remember

    Re: Swim Pass?

Snowdwhite-Not a bad call.  I think we'll take that one into consideration for next year.  Although I like the idea of using dogs and metal detectors.  I'd be like going to back to high school again...for me anyway.

    Re: Swim Pass?

Nametag usage sounds like a good idea...until you get into cost and time saving issues.  You see, the idea of barcodes works great, but using it with nametags requires printing on the BACK of the tag (they won't let us use the front because of space).  So, printing on the back requires us to handle the nametag twice, and use twice as much paper, spending time and paper twice as much...when you carry the 1 and not the 2..you get the idea.  Since everyone is trying to cut costs each and every year to bring the fastest, coolest, and costliest-less Missions Conference, extra expenses wouldn't pass the Board!

So, the nametag would work...but how would we know that you are really who you say you are...?...Which is why the counselor has been made to sign the extra sheet of paper.  Since he/she has nothing better to do than sit at the desk all day we thought we'd save some money there!  I personally lost 65 cents to the pop machine.  Not cost effective!  I think the nametags might be the ticket...

but I'm with Tom...Dogs are really cool, especially Chihuahuas!

    Re: Swim Pass?

Justin, you are so wise.  I think we should leave the swim passes to the board and we will just follow their lead though.  I'd be curious for a board member to explain themselves here.

yeah...we had to let that counselor go.  The whole time without a swim pass?  If that happens again, please let someone know.

    Re: Swim Pass?

I went to the mission conference this year and this is the first time I heard about swim passes!! I did not go swiming. Why do we need them? Why only hand out like only 30-50? How do you get them? I'm confused.

    Re: Swim Pass?

This thread is from last year and I haven't swam in a handful of years, so I'm not sure what they did this year.  I'll try to get someone who knows what's going on to comment.

    Re: Swim Pass?

It turns out this was a joke from last year (2006) that just never stopped.  From what I understand, there were never any swim passes.fa

Sorry to end the long-running joke, guys.
