    Re: Introduce Yourself

    Hi,

Chip Stapleton, husband to Traci, father to Charlie, friend to Tom, Tyler and Rob.  Those are my claims to fame.  I am in my last year in seminary and have spent the last 10 years in seminary.  NWMC is my favorite place in the world and every year God does amazing things to me there.  This year I was blessed to be a part of the high school program and it was, in my opinion the best year ever.  There, I said it.  I love this, it is like we can have mini NWMC all year.

Since, I am the first one to post after DMB, I must say that I don't know anything about music, but I thought the band was great.

    Re: Introduce Yourself

You have spent ten years in seminary?  Geez, man, get out and do something!

I also thought the music was super awesome.  I personally didn't have a problem with the drums, but then again, I was a drummer.

I did like that they tweeked "Surely the Presence" after the first few nights though.  The first version that they came out with sounded a bit too country to me, but I think that they found it by Tuesday.

Hey Jesus, you're so fine. You're so fine you blow my mind.

    Re: Introduce Yourself

    Hello All!

This is Karen Spadafora.  Most of you already know that I've been coming to conference since I was in HS which was ages ago, really.  Probably my most current claim to fame is being Chip's Mom and having baked birthday brownies for Tom Ayres!  I have been able to see many changes and programs evolve and it's truely been exciting. I not only was here when guys slept in tents and the HS girl delegates were housed in three dorms, we all ate in the field house together at the same time....in a family meal fashion with counselors at the head of the tables and waiters and set-up girls!   Most of all, the missionary spirit continues to be promoted and God's word has been proclaimed through the decades and it's exciting.  NWMC is the place I realized that everywhere I go I am an ambassador for Christ!  Each year that I'm here God has placed people in my path that need to share a story, need a prayer and somehow...are struggling with an issue that my experiences allow me to be used by God to tell more and more about His love and salvation plan.  It's always a priviledge and joy to have the opportunity!

    Re: Introduce Yourself

    Hello All,

Its Rob Alkhas (yes there are 2 Rob's at conference but my hair is alot shorter than Bradfords) and I have been coming to confernce for 10 years now (got to stand for double digits..."Woo Hoo"-Homer Simpson).   I am the husband of Dana for 8 plus years now and the father of Josh (miralces do happen) who is 2 1/2 who both have been coming to conference for a few years now.   For the past 7 years I have been involved with the Jr. High program as a leader and for the past 4 years been the Jr. High Co-coordinator with Katie Arnold.   Thankfully, God saw fit to have some as smart as Katie work with me.   This year, for the first time that anyone can remember, my church (Eastminster Presbyterian Church) has sent youth to New Wilmington and I am happy to say all are planning on coming back next year with more of the group.

People ask me all the time, where is York Pa?   So, the simple answer is this.   South Central!!!!   We are in the middle of farm country but are really not.   45 mins from Baltimore, Hershey (hooray chocolate), 2 hours from Philly (hooray Cheese Steaks), 3 Hours from Pittsburgh (Hooray Greasy food) and 3 hours from our old home.   So Basicly, South Central Pa.   We really do love it out here but we do miss "Real" Bagels and see through pizza (ask me if you want to know).

Great job this year to one and all.   I truly felt like this year, even though the numbers are down from last was a tremendous building year for conference.   I can't tell you how excited I am to know that website is becoming such a wonderful tool for conference.  This will help tremendously with some of the ideas Jr. High has been cooking up and also help youth leaders new to conference get up to speed on what conference really is.   Great job to those involved with this websites designed.

Hope everyone is surving the heat.

    Rob

    Re: Introduce Yourself

Hey there, my name is Mike Rohde, who married Gail Goter (now Rohde) who was a long-time attendeed to NWMC since her high school days.

My first experience at NWMC -- a YA counselor in Shaw with both Tyler Domske and Kyle Joachim on my floor and in my study group. Man we had a blast!

I dunno if Tyler and Kyle recall those evenings in Shaw -- one in particular where our whol Bible study small group sang "Kiss the Girl" from Little Mermaid... quite a first year at Conference.

Been attending 8 years now since 1998 and enjoying it each year. Lately I've been the "sports director" for Kids Club in the evenings, helping Kindergarten through 2nd graders get their excercise. It's been great fun, especially when those little guys and gals call out "Hey Mr. Mike" in the cafeteria or dorm hallways.

In my professional life I'm a graphic designer and web designer, specializing in corporate identity and branding (logos), software application icons, web design, t-shirts, and all sorts of other design stuff.

I'm also a blogger since 2003, writing about design, writing, culture, observations and more, here:

Thanks for updating the site and offering some new social interaction features to delegates and staff. I'm hoping this will foster discussion before and after conference each year.

"...now's your moment, floating in a blue lagoon..."

That's awesome!  I was beginning to think that had never actually happened, it seemed too funny to have really transpired.

    Re: Introduce Yourself

Time to join in on this incredible site.  Thanks for all your hard work Andrew!  I am Rachel Ludwig and NWMC has always been a time of renewal for me.  All year I would be helping to lead in the church and NWMC was a great place to come and get filled.  But through the years NWMC also changed my thinking and made my life mission minded, first in my high school and then in my college and beyond!  I am really interested in God's mission around the world and how people are living that out in 3rd world countries, Asian countries and the US.

This is what I have been up to recently, I have taught two years internationally, one year in AmeriCorps and two years in Cincinnati Public Schools.  Next year I will teach 7th grade math.  I'm already looking forward to Conference next year!

    Re: Introduce Yourself

    Hey everyone--

I'm Caitlin and as no one has claimed this title yet, I would like to state that I am NWMC's number one fan. I have come since high school, but in my heart, I think I'm really a former conference kid. :-) I have done the dramas, worked dining hall, Summer Service Mexico/Kenya 2001, counselor, drama co-leader and now on the Board.

In the time between conferences I work in social service and eat a lot of brownies...i love 'em.

    love and peace...

    Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi Everyone! I'm Jen Morris and “waved my arms” a lot at conference this year. Smile In truth, it was more like being caught up in the tremendous wave of God's power and love that is so close and overwhelming at conference. He took over - and the trepidation which I had entered conference with was gone by Friday night.

Conference has been a huge part of my life since I was 15 (21yrs ago) and is my touch point for the year- most every year. I had the privilege of directing the conference choir, Ten-fold, Jr high Choir and leading (and goofing around) with the Careers group as we sang our favorite songs from past and present. God blessed me by surrounding me with wonderful accompanists, singers, and friends who kept me strong through the week. This is the first time EVER that I did not lose my voice at conference! God is good!!! All the time!!

I had been on staff for many years as a high school and young adult counselor and several years on music staff. But this was the first time in 6 years that I had taken a staff position full time again. Time to jump in head first - and I was blest ten-fold.

At home, I have two boys (Mitchell,9, and Matthew-6) and a wonderful husband of 12 years - Keith. They'll be there next year! I also have two adult choirs that I direct at Stow Presbyterian church in Stow, OH. During the week I work part-time at Seton Catholic school where I teach K-8 music and have two choirs.

They've asked me to "wave my arms" again next year. I would welcome any suggestions anyone may have for the music program.  This was a big year for change. It took many people by surprise and for many people it was not an easy transition. Ed Marquette did an amazing job as the music co-coordinator. However, the more input we can have from you - the more we can help shape conference to our needs. What did you like, what did you not like, how can it be better?

    Re: Introduce Yourself

    Hey All,

I'me Rae, I'm 15 and i've been coming every year since i was born. and my mother and grandmother have been coming long before that, so i'm a hard core NWMC girl through and through. last year when I herad DRIVE i loved them, and this year i liked them even more. So I just wanted to find out more about them and what they do, and since you're the first one i've heard mention music so far i thought i'de jump in right here. I've checked all through this site and couldn't find anything about them (allthough that could just be the blonde genes kicking in there:-) So I was hoping somebody would know if they have a web site or anything, and if so could they hook me up? Thanks!

    Stardust and Chocolate

    Rae

    P.S

I just had to re-write this whole e-mail because the last one i had disapeird, so if 2 copys come up it's not my fault i swear!
