  • The Abundant Living Blog

I came across another blog I'll keep an eye on tonight.  It's called Abundant Living.  The post that caught my eye was a review of this pastor's recent short term mission trip to Panama, but I liked his Become a Missionary post even more.  The opening story's a great illustration.  The story isn't revolutionary, but I does a ...

  • Some Christian Mission Notes and Links

I've been holding onto some things to mention for a while and still don't have any time to give them due diligence, so here's a quick rundown. The PGF Outbox has an update from the Ellington family which is serving in Egypt. The PCUSA website has a new letter from Ellen Dozier in Guatemala where our Summer Service mission team will be traveling ...

  • Blogging from Seminary in Columbia

I just found a pretty cool looking blog authored by Parrish Jones.  He seems to be a real down to earth guy who's real about life and his faith. I particularly appreciated his post about how he went about discerning and responding to his call. I believe he's giving Alice Winters a sabbatical from her work at Reformed University of ...

  • New Mission Blog: The Church in Mission by Tim Carriker

I just discovered Tim Carriker has begun blogging about the church and mission.  While I don't know Tim personally, he was the predecessor to my Dad (Don Dawson) at the World Mission Initiative.  His first few posts are intriguing and he even has a Portuguese blog of Biblical and missionary reflections.  You'll have to find out how ...

  • Ministry and Mission Blog Example

Here's another example of how we can use blogs for ministry and mission. Linda Badger Becker uses her Presbytery Travel Blog to report back from a couple mission trips to New Orleans and from the 2006 General Assembly.

  • Be Brief When You Blog

I couldn't tell you how many blog posts I don't read simply because they don't deliver worthwhile information quickly enough. My 93 RSS feeds are more than I have time to read, so they must get to the point quickly, have something incredible to say, be entertaining or be written by someone I know and care about.

  • Spell-Checking Your Posts

One of my favorite new features of this Community Server software is the spell check.  It works pretty similarly to Microsoft Word.  Misspelled words are underlined in red.  You can then right-click on them and the top section of the menu will give you alternate spellings along with the opportunity to add the word to the ...

  • Saving a Blog Post Without Letting Others See It

If you're writing a blog post, but don't have time to write the whole thing, there are three different ways to save your progress.  You have the following 3 buttons to save your post.  Here's what they do: [ImageAttachment] Save and Continue Writing - This will save your work and bring you right back to the edit post ...

  • A Presbyterian Missionary Blogs from Guatemala

My sister pointed this out to me.  Rev. Dr. David Clipson is a Presbyterian missionary in Guatemala who keeps in touch with the world through his blog.  He only appears to post every week or two, but each post is substantial.  Unfortunately, the website host doesn't always seem to think he's a member and takes his site ...

  • Chinese Government Considers Regulating Blogs

While I'm not an expert on mission or Asia, this news disturbs me.  Ars Technica, a technical news website, reports that the Chinese government wants the real names of bloggers. The great thing about blogs is how easy that make it for anyone to put information online.  They are a powerful tool for disseminating information (and ...

  • What is RSS and How it Helps You Stay Up To Date with Websites

I've been meaning to write on this for a while now, but just came across a much better job than I would thanks to Rob Drury.  So I recommend you check out How to Explain RSS the Oprah Way. The quick and dirty is that RSS (along with its close sibling ATOM and others) is technology that enable you to find out what's new on the websites you're ...
