Beth Wheaton-Páramo

Beth Wheaton-Páramo is a research assistant professor and senior lecturer in economics at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas. She is a researcher on child labor and the economics of human rights, including human trafficking, capital punishment, violence against women, seeking asylum, terrorism, child abuse, genocide, and hate. She is the principal investigator on a $1.187 million U.S. federal grant from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), which provides the foundation for building a human trafficking data warehouse. She is currently leading the building of the SMU Human Trafficking Institute, a research and resource center. In 2018, she published the textbook The Economics of Human Rights. She received many teaching awards, including the Piper Professor Award in 2023, which is awarded annually to 10 Texas professors. Beth holds an MA and PhD in economics from Temple University and an MS in international business and trade from Grambling State University. Her greatest passion is to assist world changers in taking the next step along their personal journeys.
